Bella is a wonderfully sweet little girl we imported from Sicily. We had hopes that she would help expand our breeding program, but Mother Nature had other ideas. At about 2 years old, she suddenly got very sick. It turned out her liver had stopped working. After multiple tests and biopsies, we determined that she ingested a toxic bug of some kind. Her liver quit working in order to keep the toxins out of the rest of her system. Once the toxins had cleared, the liver started working again. Unfortunately, during the time with no liver function, it did cause some neurologic damage. Our little girl is just not the same, but we love her none the less. After passing physicals from 3 different veterinarians, including a reproductive specialist, we allowed her to have a litter of puppies.
